The Name of The Books.....

As referenced yesterday here are the answers to the unknown books that I got from my local library.

I was hoping that this one wasn't Harry Potter since I already have them, but wasn't sure what it was. The answer took me by surprise.

Not what I was expecting and while I do like two movies of Stephen King, normally I am not much of a fan. Plus, this is part of a series, but I did see that before starting that book a history section is included. Perhaps it won't be so bad then? 

By the description I figured it took place in historical Scotland, which I was correct about but wasn't sure of the century. It sounds like a good read.

Books and What Are the Titles of These?

I went to the library today, and had quite a few books on hold for me. It seems like whenever I request books they are available all at once. As you can probably tell I had a them going on. While there my loa project local library has a project they do every year around Valentine's Day, called Date With A Book. It is a cute idea, and basically they wrap some books and put a vague description on them, you pick one or more and then open it at home and enjoy. I already know the answer to the two books I picked out, but will wait until tomorrow to post what they were.

Not Too Much Started

I have started a few projects last month. One of them is a quilt for my husband that I started hand quilting. The other items the Mirabilla project will be for my mother and the Tardis HAED project is for our house.

Midwest Readathon Challenge 2016 - Feb.

  I have decided that my choice to read for this month will be The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Per my previous posts I will give a little information about the author and were he was born. Mark Twain was actually born as Samuel Langhorne Clemens Nov. 30th, 1835 in Florida, Missouri. At the age of five his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri. Florida, Missouri wasn't created until 1831 and during the Civil War had two battles. It's biggest population of 200 people in 1880. It has always been a small village and as the census in 2000 had only nine residents. Unfortunately, by the 2010 census it was uninhabited. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was written in 1876 (of course everyone will also know he is a character in Huck Finn as well). I won't do a summary of the book as I figure everyone knows what it is about. However, I never knew there was two sequels, one written in 1894 called Tom Sawyer Abroad and another in 1896 called Tom Sawyer, Detective. I might have to see if I can find copies of them, they might be availble for free on Amazon as a kindle version as these might be in the publice domain.

Midwest Readathon Challenge: A Homesteader Review

  I have finished reading A Homesteader by Oscar Micheaux for the Midwest Readathon Challenge for the state of Illinois, if you want to find out more about the interesting life of Oscar Micheaux here is more information on my previous post. I was trying to think of what rating I should give this book, but having somewhat of a difficult time, I decided to give it a 2.5 instead of 3.0 out of 5. I think that if this book was less disjointed I would have liked it a bit more. The book starts with the two main characters who each have a dream about each other.  For the first 20 percent of the book it switches between the two characters, but then all a sudden only goes to the male characters view until the end of the book, which you are left wondering what happened to the female character. The last ten percent of the book feels very rushed and then your suddenly reminded about previous events that happened at the beginning of the book, which by that time you have completely forgotten about since it was just dropped. There are several instances that are repetitive that end up dragging the book. This book was written in 1918 and with that certain language is used and views about people that are not appropriate today.

I haven't decided which book I will read this month for the challenge, but will probably post tomorrow which one I have picked.
